about
We are pleased to present The Groove Family's new single, “Rough Shine”, recorded in strictly analog format at Santi Martin's Aurora Studios (The Sweet Vandals) in January 2024.
This is the band's third single and the first of three to be released this May. It features Jay Rivera, vocals, Carlo “Groove" Lezcano, guitars, Gabri Casanova, hammond and Moog synthesizer, Miquel Ferrer, drums, and Francis García, bass.
Composed by Jay Rivera and Carlo Groove, it has a more aggressive funk sound than TGF's previous works. The song, self-produced under the “Roughshine Records” label, makes a clear allusion both in its lyrics and on its cover to the urgent need to raise our voices against injustices, especially those affecting Palestine and the genocide that is being committed in the Gaza strip.
lyrics
Tell me what we’re gonna do
we’ve been holding back for too long
In this situation we have the power
Working for a better world
where we get to keep on shining.
Hear me cause the time is now
when we make a stand and fight, yeah
We get to shine from the roughness,
from the roughness
Stand up cause you know it’s right
Can’t just sit around and do nothing
Silence is the coward’s choice, not the Warrior’s
Only the rough shine
Hear me, c’mon
Are we gonna stand for truth?
Can you feel it? C’mon!
Sound of your heart beating
Lord, help us in the darkest hour
And bring back the love
Stand up ‘cause you know it’s right
Can’t just sit around and do nothing
Stand up and you’ll learn just how the rough shine on
Only the rough shine
(Rough Shine)
Shining out the roughness
(Rough Shine)
We gotta take back the power
(Rough Shine)
Its time, its time to let the
(Rough Shine)
(Rough Shine)
Shining out the roughness
(Rough Shine)
We gotta take back the power
ROUGH!
